Our Story

The story behind North and Under
From Australia to Canada
From passion project, to small business

Hi, We're Jack & Jayne
The Beginning

A Temporary Adventure Became Home

Our story started when I (Jack) moved to Canada from Australia 13 years ago. What was supposed to be a temporary adventure turned into something much more permanent. I fell in love with the country, the seasons, and the people, and in 2025, I proudly became a Canadian citizen.

From Concept to Reality

The Idea

Something Meaningful

To commemorate the milestone, I decided to finally act on an idea I'd had for years. A custom watch, using real Canadian Maple for the dial, with an intricate laser cut design. Something meaningful and truly unique. I prototyped the first version with no real plan beyond seeing if it could be done, and posted it on social media.

The Response

From Project to Brand

The response was overwhelming, our first release sold out faster than we expected. What was a personal passion project suddenly needed to become a small business. That's when I roped Jayne in to help ramp up production and turn this into a real brand.

North & Under

Crafted in Limited Runs

Now we run North and Under together from Toronto, where every watch ships out directly from us. Because it's just the two of us, each piece is crafted in limited runs. No mass production. We want every release to feel special, creative, and like something you'd be proud to wear.

The name North and Under is a nod to both places we call home: North for Canada, the Great White North, and Under for Australia, the land Down Under.

Our designs draw inspiration from the natural beauty of places all around the world, using natural materials sourced from Canada.

We're just getting started, and we're so happy that you took a moment to check us out (and read all of this!). If you've got an idea for a design or a story you want to tell on a watch face, we'd love to hear it!
