From Concept to Reality
About
Hi, I’m Jack.
I moved to Canada from Australia 13 years ago, when I was nineteen. What was supposed to be a temporary adventure turned into something much more permanent.
I fell in love with the country, the seasons, and the people. In 2025, I proudly became a Canadian citizen. To celebrate, I finally brought a long-time dream to life: building a watch that combines craftsmanship, nature, and story.
Years ago, I had the idea to create a custom watch using real wood and a laser cutter, something that would let me craft intricate inlaid designs, something meaningful and truly one-of-a-kind. I kept putting it off until the idea of celebrating my new citizenship reignited that passion. I prototyped the first version, showed it to family and friends, and they all said the same thing: “You have to sell these.”
That’s how Maple was born. My first design features real, sustainably sourced Canadian maple wood. It’s elegant, minimal, and made to highlight the natural beauty of the material itself.
Now I live in Toronto with my family, and each watch ships out directly from here. It's just myself and my partner Jayne behind this project, which means each piece is crafted in limited runs. No mass production. I want each release to feel special, creative, and like something you’d be proud to wear.
The name North and Under is a nod to both places I call home: North for Canada, the Great White North, and Under for Australia, the land Down Under. Future designs won’t just focus on Canadian themes. I’ll be drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of places all around the world.
This journey has shaped me and this brand in every way.
Maple is just the beginning. More designs are coming.
If you’ve got an idea for a design or a story you want to tell, I’d love to hear it!
